People including children were filmed walking around the sides of a rollercoaster at a dizzying height and clinging on for dear life in Colombia after it had broken down

Stranded thrill-seekers forced to flee broken-down rollercoaster

Footage has captured the moment stranded thrill-seekers were forced to flee a broken rollercoaster on a precarious walkway on the ride’s track.

The heart-stopping footage shows over 20 passengers, including small children, carefully walking along the narrow path at a great height at the amusement park in Montenegro, Colombia, last Sunday. They have to walk around in circles due to the cylindrical structure.

The man recording the video said people were feeling “shocked and nervous” during “a one-off situation”. At the same time, the ride train is seen stationary at the top of the rollercoaster and some park visitors reportedly suffered a panic attack due to the height.

One person wrote on X: “What a horrific situation at Parque Del Cafe, I don’t know what is worse, the failure of the ride or that there isn’t a crane there with arms that could bring the people down in a basket. There are people including elderly and children having to walk down and holding on due to the danger.”

The ride stopped working after a power outage at the Parque del Cafe amusement park. A park spokesperson said the ride does have a backup power system, but they decided against using it on this occasion.

As the initial part of the ride is uphill, they decided it was safer to keep the ride without power to prevent the cars from moving backwards. They also stated that they regularly check their rides and have never faced a serious emergency in more than 20 years of operation.

The spokesperson confirmed that no one was injured but a thrillseeker suffered a tragic fate on the same day in Mexico. The victim, named as Andres, died after being thrown from a ride at the Iztapalapa Fair in the capital Mexico City on Sunday.

He fell from the ride, called ‘Crazy Cups’, due to the speed it was operating at, according to local reports. Andres was thrown to the ground and suffered serious injuries. It’s unclear if he was properly secured in the car when the ride started. The victim was taken to the Santa Rosa Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, reported by NeedToKnow.
