A simple cleaning hack which will help clean your microwave in seconds requires only two ingredients, with the appliance left good as new and free from grime and bacteria

Cleaning the microwave is often a job we put off. Food splatters build up and it can be tricky to get the appliance sparkly clean again.

It’s vitally important, however, that microwaves are cleaned regularly to ensure they are in tip-top condition. With the ascent of air fryers, microwaves may not be used as much nowadays but they are still extremely handy when heating up food and leftovers. But what is the cheapest and simplest way of cleaning a microwave? Hisense UK, the experts behind home appliances and electronics, have revealed a simple hack which requires only two ingredients.

The company say regular cleaning of kitchen appliances prolong their lifespan and maintain efficiency while also safeguarding against mould and bacteria. So, anyone looking to give their microwave a clean only need two items; water and a lemon. Simply fill a microwaveable bowl with water and put a handful of lemon slices in the bowl. Then place it in the microwave, turn it on for a few minutes and once finished wipe down the inside, reports Daily Express.

The experts at Hisense said: “Your microwave can very quickly become a breeding ground for bacteria and germs, if it’s not cleaned regularly. Quite often, food will splatter on the sides and roof of the interior compartment, which invites germs to multiply if left for too long. To keep your microwave in top condition, wipe it down inside and out at least once a week. For tougher stains, heat a bowl of water with lemon slices for a few minutes, then wipe down the interior. The steam will loosen grime and the lemon will neutralize odours, giving you a bacteria-free microwave.”

This is not the only way of cleaning your microwave, however. Another simple method is to take roughly 200ml of white vinegar, pour it into a bowl suitable for the microwave, and let it run uncovered inside the appliance. Then heat the contents for five minutes before allowing it to sit for another five. Remove the bowl from the microwave and wipe down the inside with a clean cloth. Hisense say microwaves, as well as other appliances such as air fryers, fridges, and washing machines, need cleaning at least weekly. Not only is this good for a a hygienic living environment, it also helps eradicate unpleasant odours.
