A video of Shania Twain singing at a family gathering two years before the release of her debut album has left fans in awe of the Canadian country music star’s talent

Shania Twain rose to fame as a country music superstar in the 1990s – becoming one of the best-selling artists of all time.

But she wasn’t always selling out huge venues, playing at Glastonbury and being mobbed by adoring fans. The 59-year-old singer started out as many do – with nothing but a dream.

Shania (born Eilleen Regina Edwards in 1965 in Ontario, Canada) grew up in a financially struggling family. She began performing at a young age in bars and clubs to help support her family, honing her musical skills and stage presence. After her parents passed away in a tragic car accident when she was 22, she continued singing to support her younger siblings.

She wasn’t afraid to get up and show off her talent – as shown by a home video taken of the singer back in the early 90s. It’s clear that she had an incredible talent from a very young age.

One supporter posted on Reddit: “Rare home video footage of Shania Twain (back when she was still known as Eilleen Regina Edwards), playing for friends and family at Christmastime in Ontario, 1991.

“About this time she was supporting herself and her younger siblings (after their mom and stepdad had died in a ’87 car accident) by earning money performing at the nearby Deerhurst Resort.

“A few years after this was filmed, the record labels took notice of some of her demo tapes. Eventually she would sign with Mercury Nashville Records and change to her stage name of ‘Shania.'”

After the post went viral on Reddit, many waded into the comments section to make the same comment. They pointed out that Shania has had incredible talent that’s lasted for decades.

One said: “She has such a beautiful unique voice.” Another commented: “Her voice is so beautiful. And this video makes me miss the 90s.”

A third wrote: “Who is talking so much in the background? Don’t they know they’re at a free Shania Twain concert?!” And a fourth added: “I just watched here in Vegas on the 29th. She’s still amazing.”
