Using an unexpected method to cleaning a bathroom mirror paid off and meant no smear marks or watermarks appeared on the mirror glass

A woman was astonished after coming across a life-changing hack for cleaning her bathroom mirror.

The bathroom fixtures she aid were ‘polka-dotted with toothpaste splatter’ and covered in watermarks and needed a scrub through regular family use.

But the writer of apartmenttherapy discovered a TikTok video called “bathroom cleaning hacks you’ll wish you knew sooner” and wanted to discover if they worked

It threw up a little-known trick of using shaving soap to clean mirrors and she wanted to see if it would work.

Usually shaving cream allows a razor to be run over the skin avoiding nick marks and cleaning the skin at the same time.

But these properties also work better on glass and in the clever hack @homewithleanne says it also works to stop your mirror getting steamed up after a bath or shower.

Writer Laura Wheatman Hill smeared toothpaste on the mirror to make a proper mess to clean.

She then put shaving cream on the mirror spreading it over the smear, but left some free to test if the anti-fogging claims were accurate.

Laura said she wet a microfibre cloth and started wiping but it left streaks streaks. But she noticed she was supposed to use a dry cloth to buff up the mirror.

She wrote: “I don’t think my mirror has ever looked cleaner. Regular glass cleaner gets the mirror clean, but is much more prone to streaks that need to be buffed out.

“The shaving cream created a streak-free shine without having to go over it again. Of course, I expect the toothpaste splatter to resume tomorrow morning, but it’s nice to know I have a quick fix should I want to clean up quick.”

To check the anti-fogging properties of the cream she turned in a hot shower and noticed t the mirror was beginning to fog in the centre.

She said the the corner she had omitted while applying shaving soap was remained fogged and concluded the defogging test had ‘failed’

She switched off the water cleared out the steam and then gave the mirror one more wipe-down with the dry microfibre cloth ands it was was back to its previous sheen with no streaks.
