A common habit that customers do in an attempt to help has been revealed to drive servers crazy, according to a waiter whose TikTok video went viral

A waiter has vented his frustration over a common customer habit that’s more hindrance than help.

Many diners, in an attempt to be considerate, stack their dishes or pass them to staff, but one practice is particularly irksome for those clearing tables. Taking to TikTok, the server aired his grievance about patrons stuffing their leftover rubbish into cups, which actually complicates the cleanup process.

The debris clings to the cup interiors, making disposal and cleaning more difficult – and it’s not exactly pleasant to handle either. In his viral clip, the Spanish waiter explained: “Let’s see if with this video we manage to change some things.

“I know you don’t do it to annoy us, but to help us, or to keep the table clean, but look at this. You put all these things inside the cup.

“I’ll never understand if it’s to help us or if it’s just a habit. Please, if you want to help the waiters, the best thing to do is to leave it in the saucer or plate, so we go to the kitchen and throw it away without any problems.

“You save us the trouble of having to take out all the little pieces of paper and then throw them in the bin and wash it.

“This helps waiters a lot. Thanks!”

The comments section reveals that many were oblivious to the fact that they were getting on the nerves of serving staff, reports the Express. Many felt they were being helpful to their waiters.

One diner revealed: “I do it to make everything look clean and tidy.”

Another admitted: “I do it at home as well.” A third remarked remorsefully: “I will never do it again! “

But according to a whopping 53 per cent of waiters, the most annoying trait is customers with bad manners. This is closely trailed by patrons who impolitely snap their fingers to grab attention (42 per cent) and rowdy or disruptive children (32 per cent).

Despite the gripes, waiting tables has its perks, as nearly half (47 per cent) of servers highlighted tips as the prime perk of the role. Meeting new folks also ranked high (46 per cent) along with the buzz of a busy shift (41 per cent).
