Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie Borthwick and Michelle Tsiakkas have been fan-favourites since the series began

Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie Borthwick shut down the rumours that there’s a potential romance with pro dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas.

The 30-year-old and Michelle have been fan favourites since the 20th-anniversary series began last month. Rumours have been swirling about the two even though Michelle has a boyfriend. He even previously revealed he secretly idolises him and called him his “rock” despite never meeting him.

And now, Jamie went even further to dispel the rumours and insisted the Strictly curse won’t be a problem for him even though the two have tested cute nicknames for each other. Jamie claimed that fans would be disappointed as Michelle is more like a mother to him.

“Honestly, it’s hilarious that people think we’re getting jiggy!” the 30-year-old said. “I really don’t know where that comes from, but I think everyone kind of just pre-empts the Strictly curse.”

Speaking to The Sun, he added: “You definitely ain’t got no worries about Michelle — she’s like a sister, mum and auntie all rolled into one.” The star previously shut down the rumours during a chat with the Mirror where he insisted “it’s definitely not going to be a thing here because it would be weird doing that with my sister.”

He said: “Michelle and I met before Strictly and we instantly had a connection. But she is like a sister, an aunt, a mum, a best friend. She’s looking after me, she’s mothering me.”

When speaking about Michelle’s real-life partner Simone Arena, he explained: “Her boyfriend doesn’t know it yet because we’ve never met, but he’s my rock already. I’ve been looking him up, watching him dance on his shows and I’m like, ‘Mate, you’re my icon’. He’s an absolutely fantastic dancer.”

Michelle, 29, added: “He hasn’t met Jamie yet, but I think when they do, it’s going to be just this lovely relationship that we all have. Jamie and I are like brother and sister, we have established such a lovely connection so early, which is special.” After winning last year’s Strictly Christmas special with a perfect 40 score, he became a favourite to win the show.

He said that it’s now a “different ballgame”, explaining: “Compared to this, Christmas was an absolute doddle.”
