Elon Musk has seemingly unfollowed Kanye West on Twitter after the rapper shared a number of anti-Semitic and other bigoted posts on the social media platform now known as X
Elon Musk, the big boss at X and controversial public figure, has unfollowed rapper Kanye West on the platform following a series of antisemitic rants posted by the music star.
This social media snub comes after calls from numerous X patrons, celebrities like David Schwimmer included, to boot the rapper off the platform. Kanye himself commented on the matter, pretty much predicting his looming exile: “Elon unfollowed me so I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be on twitter / X, If I’m taken off go to…”
His post then trailed off with an invite to his fashion label’s site, Yeezy.com. Elon, who took over at Twitter, seems to have distanced himself from Kanye as the artist continually dropped content riddled with vile Nazi-related messages and digs at Jewish people. Among these contentious posts were jabs aimed at Elon too. He also shared posts defending Diddy and making light of domestic abuse.
Father-of-four Kanye shared dozens of anti-semitic posts mocking the Jewish community, and even close of friends of his who are Jews – before claiming that he has “never trusted them”. In his series of tweets, one read: “I LOVE HITLER. NOW WHAT B***ES.” He quickly followed it up with: “LETS SEE IF YALL GIVE THAT MONEY BACK,” before adding: “IM A NAZI.”
The controversial star also went on to outrageously claim he was racist: “IM RACIST STEREO TYPES EXIST FOR A REASON AND THEY ALL BE TRUE,” he claimed as he reiterated his previous derogatory comments about Jewish people. Ye, known for his offensive Twitter tirades against many groups of people, fired off more than 20 tweets on Friday.
Kanye had his X account suspended at least twice in recent years after posting similar racist comments. In December of 2022, his account was blocked after he made antisemitic comments and praised Hitler. At the time, Elon said the account would be suspended “for incitement to violence” after Ye posted a picture that appeared to show a swastika inside a Star of David.
In July 2023, his account was unsuspended. Following his recent antisemitic tirade, Friends actor David took to his page to request Elon stop Kanye. David wrote: “This is so 2022. We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X.”
“That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.” He continued: “I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalized communities including his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point. Silence is complicity.”
