Sky has just given us the first glimpse at its new Sky Glass smart TV
Shoppers in the market for a smart TV are spoiled for choice as LG and Sky battle it out with their new rival OLED models. We’ve just spotted a hefty discount on the 48” LG OLED B4 smart TV that’s down to its ‘lowest price ever’ of £699.99 at Argos.
That’s £200 cheaper than LG’s usual price of £899.99 for the device which launched just last year. According to LG, its self-lit OLED is the ‘piccancle of TV technology’, with the device delivering ‘100% colour accuracy’ on its super-sharp display.
It’s also powered by an AI processor, which can optimise what’s on screen so you always get the best image. And while this highly-rated TV – which has earned an impressive 4.8-star rating – is certainly appealing, Sky has just unveiled a new device that’s stiff competition and means you don’t have to fork out hundreds of pounds all at once.

On Wednesday, February 12, shoppers will be able to order the new Sky Glass Gen 2, an upgrade from its original 2021 smart TV. For those unfamiliar, Sky Glass is Sky’s own 4K device that delivers channels over the internet without a satellite dish or Sky box.
However, since its launch, newer models from brands like Samsung and LG have seen the Sky Glass begin to look somewhat dated. But it appears the Sky Glass Gen 2 will feature some significant upgrades as it boasts a brighter 4K Quantum Dot display, with advanced HDR and precision contrast enhancement to make the darks darker and brights brighter.
It also has a wider viewing angle so you can get the perfect image no matter where you sit. Its sound has also had a boost, with the addition of an enhanced seven-speaker Dolby Atmos sound system built in.
There’s also hundreds of smart features like voice control and personal playlists, with the TV learning what you like to watch. According to tech editor Dave Snelling at the Mirror, the Gen 2 ‘finally fixes’ a problem from its predecessor.
He said: “Thanks to a new Quantum Dot LED HDR screen tucked inside. Sky says this boosts everything, including the colour, contrast, and those all-important blacks, which should make the content look more punchy and rich in detail.”
Sky Glass Gen 2 is available in three screen sizes – 43”, 55” and 65” – and a choice of three colours including volcanic grey, Arctic silver, and blue. Prices start from £14 per month when spreading the cost, but those ordering the TV will also need a new Sky package to go with it, whether that’s a 24-month subscription or a flexible 31-day rolling contract.
Last year, Sky unveiled an overhaul of its TV subscriptions with the launch of its new packages, which now start with the £15 Essential TV bundle. This provides access to more than 100 channels such as Sky Atlantic, with Netflix and Discovery+ as standard – with the option to add £40 extra channels for £7.
Combining a subscription with Sky Glass Gen 2 brings the price to £29 per month for a shiny new 4K TV plus countless series and films across Sky, Netflix and Discovery+. The main thing to keep in mind is that Sky Glass is taken on a 48-month loan, which does work out more expensive than the LG over time, but provides a great alternative to buying a TV outright if you’re happy to make commitment.
