Liverpool are flying high in both the Premier League and Champions League this season under Arne Slot and will be keen to extend their great form before the international break

Liverpool have silenced many doubters this season under new boss Arne Slot.

The Reds have enjoyed a stunning start to the new season and sit top of the Premier League. They have also displayed some stunning form in the Champions League.

The 4-0 win over German champions Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday also leaves them top of the European standings. They now look an excellent bet to book a spot in the next round of the competition.

Slot’s side will certainly be aiming to continue that stunning run before the November international break. The Reds welcome Aston Villa to Anfield on Saturday evening.

Another win would see them stretch their lead at the top of the early Premier League standings. Take a look at the latest news from Anfield ahead of the game:

Neville makes Liverpool u-turn

Gary Neville has been forced to backtrack on his claim that Liverpool will fail to finish in the top four – but still can’t see them winning the Premier League. Speaking on the ‘It’s Called Soccer!’ podcast, Neville said: “I never change my predictions at this stage of the season. My predictions were that Liverpool wouldn’t even be in the top four.

“That has to change because they’ve done a far better job of settling Arne Slot in than I imagined and getting over the Jurgen Klopp exit. But I do think that City and Arsenal will hit their stride at some point and that they will hit their form. At that point, they will prove to still be the best two teams in the country.

“I don’t feel like I’m watching a champion team. However, if this is the real City and Arsenal that we are going to see all season and they’re going to be as inconsistent as they have been in these first ten games, then we could end up with a shock. They’re the only other team that can win it, but I still think it’s an outside bet.”

Slot sent Salah warning

Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson has warned that Mohamed Salah will be “almost impossible to replace”. The Egyptian forward is out of contract next summer.

Speaking to 10bet, Johnson said: “He’s still a world-class player, isn’t he? If you lose him, he’s almost impossible to replace and you certainly wouldn’t want to be the player trying to replace him, that’s for sure.

“Hopefully they can get a deal done. I know he’s getting older, but he’s still putting in these performances and there are still not many better than him around at the moment.”

Klopp ‘in the frame’ for new job

Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could be set for a sensational return to football with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti finds himself under increasing pressure after a disappointing start to the season.

And Klopp could be among the candidates for the job if Ancelotti is sacked. According to Mundo Deportivo, the German would be in the frame for the job but is unlikely that he would want to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Klopp recently put pen to paper with Red Bull to become their head of global soccer. He will officially start that job in January.
