Tobias Fischer, 35, died while hiking in the Dumbira forest in the Tatanga district of Colombia. Local reports say he was trying to take a selfie when he lost his balance and fell

A holidaymaker has tragically fallen to his death while trying to take a selfie at a tourist hotspot in Colombia.

Tobias Fischer, 35, tragically died while hiking in the Tatanga district of the South American country on October 19. According to local reports, the tourist tried to take a selfie in the Dumbira forest, with the sea in the background, when he lost his balance and fell down a ravine.

He was later found by other hikers, who called the emergency services. However, after being rushed to hospital, Mr Fischer suffered a cardiac arrest due to his severe injuries and passed away.

His death has been ruled as an accident. A police spokesperson told local media: “We have been informed that the foreigner fell from a high place while he was walking and was quickly helped by the community, who took him to the emergency room at the Taganga health post.”

It is believed the tourist had arrived to the Santa Maria area of Colombia earlier this month as he wanted to explore beaches and mountains. Reports say his family has been notified of the tragedy and is working with authorities to repatriate his body.

In August, another tourist plunged to his death from the balcony of a five star hotel in Thailand. The Irish man, 67, is thought to have fallen from the 31st floor of the Grande Centre Point Pattaya Hotel in Pattaya.

Captain Chanan, from local police, said: “We have taken photos of the scene as evidence. As for the cause of the fall, we still have to determine if it was an accident or not. We will be checking the CCTV footage.”

Earlier this month, a British influencer plunged 630ft to his death while attempting to scale Spain’s tallest bridge was captured in a haunting final social media post looking over the edge of a New York city skyscraper. Lewis Stevenson, 26, was warned by loved-ones not to attempt the risky climb up the Castilla-La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina, a 90-minute drive from Madrid, on October 13. Lewis, who would document his climbing adventures on social media, took to the bridge without safety equipment.

In a final haunting image posted of himself on Instagram, the daredevil was captured sitting at the top of a New York city skyscraper with his legs hanging over the edge. He is joined by six fellow thrill seekers, and all appear to have no safety equipment on them. In a separate snap on Facebook, the 26-year-old is seen standing over the edge of a high-rise in Croatia overlooking greenery. The caption reads: “Croatian sunsets are lovely.”
