Barber Thai Nguyen set to work on his shaggy-haired client – and the end result was completely unrecognisable, so much so that TikTok users struggled to believe it was the same man
A man who went 10 months without getting a haircut left social media baffled after completing a remarkable transformation.
Salon owner Thai Nguyen took to TikTok whilst working on his shaggy-haired client whose last trim saw him leave with a short buzz cut. Now with several inches of hair, he told Thai: “I used to go to [other barbers] Supercuts and Sports Clips – but I haven’t had an actual barber.”
He continued, bemoaning his previous salons inability to get the “back of his head and hairline even”, whilst cutting his hair “too short”. Pulling out a photograph as a guide for Thai to work off, the man added: “So I kind of want to get like a middle part, then shorten the sides.”
Without recording footage of the cutting process, Thai’s video soon jumped to the end result – with his client – who had travelled for two hours to get to the salon – appearing completely unrecognisable. “How are you feeling right now? Thai asked, prior to the grand reveal. “A little nervous?”
“Yeah a little nervous, but confident,” the man declared in anticipation. And after he was handed the mirror to see for himself, he gushed: “Oh my god, it’s clean.”
“My boy got the middle part with a low taper fade,” Thai penned in a caption. “It can also be done with a two block cut. This style on him was more flowy than messy. Still was a clean transformation.”
“Is that the same person?!” asked one TikTok user in shock. “I don’t believe it!” A second commented: “Woah he looks so much older with the new cut.”
A third TikTok user hailed: “Wow like a different person!” A fourth declared: “His mum will be crying with joy.” And a fifth said: “Changing peoples lives, it’s amazing.”
Ready to roll with his new look having removed his glasses, others highlighted how his earrings now complemented the style. “The earrings make it better,” one TikTok user admitted. Whilst a second penned: “90s hair is back. Giving [American actor and film producer] Ryder Strong vibes!”
Thai, who is based in Richmond, Virginia in the US charges $150.00 (£120 approx.) for a one-hour time slot per haircut at his Nguyen Steady Cutting salon. For an additional $25 (£20), clients can get a beard trim too.
Encouraging others to live their dreams on his Instagram account, Thai writes: “They will say it’s impossible until you make it possible. Don’t let the words of other people stop you from your ambition because this is what happens when you don’t give up. We not stopping here we gotta keep it pushing.”
