A worried family member after asking for advice on what to do as their sister’s husband won’t change his mind on the unusual name he wants to name his future daughter, much to his wife’s dismay
One of the biggest decisions that comes with having a baby is deciding on what to name them.
It’s common for parents to pick a name that means a lot to them, whether it’s naming them after a beloved person in their life or the name having a deeper meaning. While most names end up fitting their baby perfectly, others might decided to go with an more unusual name.
But how far can you take it? This is something one person wondered after finding out what her sister’s husband wants to name his future daughter.
A concerned sibling shared that their sister and her husband were four weeks away from welcoming their baby daughter, and that they’re becoming increasingly stressed about the possibility of the couple giving their baby an unusual name.
The Reddit user took to a name-discussion forum to explain that her brother-in-law was insisting on naming their baby daughter after the ADHD medication that he claimed had saved his life.
“Vyvanse. He wants to name her Vyvanse,” the Reddit user shared. Vyvanse is a brand name for the medication Lisdexamfetamine, a stimulant medication that is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in both adults and children.
The Reddit user went on to explain that their sister had tried to argue against her husband, saying they should look for a different name, and had even joined forces with his mum to try to convince him that they should go for a different name, arguing how the name could be ‘indecent’.
However, the dad-to-be was still fully set on naming his daughter, who is due to be born in four weeks, Vyvanse, and won’t listen to anyone about changing his mind.
People were quick to comment, with most people agreeing with the Reddit user that it wasn’t a suitable name for a baby.
“Say to call her Vivienne or something bc wtf,” one user suggested, while another person wrote: “Vy as first name Vance as the middle name. Everyone is happy.”
One user joked: “Vyvanse should just be a nickname. The name on her birth certificate should be Lisdexamfetamine.”
“Can you straight up tell him: ‘your daughter will end up bullied. is that the legacy you want her to have on account of your diagnosis?'” another person wrote.
“Tell your sister that names are a “2 yes, 1 no” situation. Maybe they can compromise with Vivian/Vivianne/Vivienne?” another user suggested, to which the writer replied: “Yeah I suggested Viv/Vyv/Vivian. He seems to insist on Vyvanse. I haven’t had a kid so I really don’t know how it works, I imagine if two parents disagree on the name then like, a court might decide on a more sane name? Idk.”
