Netflix viewers are flocking to a knockout film that’s said to bring audiences ‘to their knees’. The movie, recently added to the platform, has quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the most viewed.

As of now, Big George Foreman holds the number two spot in the top ten films in the UK, only surpassed by the newly released title Back In Action featuring Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz. The newly added title is a biopic centred on the remarkable life and true story of the former boxing champion.

The narrative delves into one of the most incredible comebacks in sport and the transformative power of second chances. Driven by a childhood marked by poverty, Foreman channelled his rage into becoming an Olympic Gold medallist and World Heavyweight Champion. A near-death experience then led him from the boxing ring to the pulpit in a spiritual awakening.

However, as his community begins to grapple with spiritual and financial hardships, Foreman steps back into the ring, vowing to reclaim his title. This would mean becoming the oldest and most unlikely World Heavyweight Boxing Champion in history, reports Surrey Live.

Released in cinemas back in 2023, the film was crafted by director George Tillman Jr., known for movies like Faster, The Hate U Give and Notorious. Khris Davis steps into the shoes of the legendary Foreman, building on his performances in Detroit and Judas and the Black Messiah. Accompanying him is the Oscar-winning talent Forest Whitaker, portraying Foreman’s coach and guide Doc Broadus.

Movie buffs have been singing its praises since it first dazzled cinema audiences, and now, with its debut on Netflix, it’s finding an even broader fan base. Viewers are particularly moved by the blend of a stirring true story and the inspiring lessons at the heart of the script.

Online, one film fan shared their admiration, writing: “An absolute blinder of a film that tries to capture the even more incredible life journey of one of the greatest boxing fighters. Here is a true story of a boxer who instead of basing his life on hate, turned to Christian faith and chose to channel it into a competitive sport in which you need not come away with rage.

“His personal life story of his other ventures, his family, his church and the way he managed it shows a more compelling biography than the Tysons and Alis of the world who are more about brash flamboyance mostly. Foreman actually began to change society and mindsets especially among young black boys. Great champ, great story, great movie.”

The praise doesn’t stop there, as one fan was left utterly gobsmacked by the film: “I am sitting here stunned after watching this amazing movie. Who knew these things about George Foreman? This movie puts any other boxing movie to shame. I don’t want to ruin it for you but please trust me, if you want to see a movie that will truly bring you to your knees (literally) and end up having you rejoicing, then watch this movie!”

One viewer admitted the movie ‘brought so much tears to my eyes.’ Singing its praises, another exclaimed: “Brilliant. Not a bad thing to say. I enjoyed every second of this movie.

“From the director to each actor it was flawless. If you have never seen a title fight in real life – this film just about takes you there. I look forward to re-watching all 125 mins again in a year or two. For now I’m still in the moment.”
