Google Flights has added a new feature which allows travellers to find the best possible deal in one click.
Air travel searching site, Google Flights has created a new ‘cheapest’ tab which allows holidaymakers to sort flight options based on the best possible price.
The new ‘cheapest’ tab allows users to search through flights in various ways, including finding flights on third party booking sites. One of the hacks the website users is flying out of and back to different airports in the same city. For example, flying out of New York City from LaGuardia, but returning to JFK airport.

The new feature is currently being rolled out, and will be available globally over the next two weeks.
However, some of the options under the cheapest tab may have ‘creative itineraries’ that could include longer layovers and self-transfers, where passengers are required to collect and recheck their bags during a layover, instead of it being done by the airline.
Craig Donaldson, via Pocket-lint said: “Every trip I’ve ever been on has been booked using it, and it’s saved me hundreds of dollars and countless hours of scratching my head in frustration trying to book flights. With the holidays just around the corner, many people may be looking to book flights soon to see friends and family.”
Back in May, Google also introduced a feature to suggest when prices are historically lowest and when you should book to maximise savings. Google Flights was first launched back in 2011, and was designed to simplify the process of finding flights, comparing prices and booking travel.

Initially when it was launched the new search function was relatatively simple, offering users a streamlined way to search for flights. It allowed user to find flights faster than many competitors and it included a map interface that showed fare prices based on different destinations.
Since its launch, Google Flights has had multiple updates including a price graph and data grid, explore map and speed and efficiency upgrades.
Two vital updates were price predictions and price alerts, allowing users to see when prices were likely to rise or fall and to set up alerts for journeys they want to track and attempt to purchase cheaper tickets for.
In 2021, the platform also introduced carbon emission data which allows holidaymakers to compare the environmental impact of different flights.
With the recent developments in technology, Google Flights uses AI to refine search results based on the users’ preferences, predict price trends and provide tailored recommendations. For individuals who don’t know where they wish to travel, the platform has a useful ‘anywhere’ destination, which will show you prices for flights from the user’s chosen airport for across the world.
