It’s one of the cheapest deals this autumn and has a huge perk for travellers

It’s been a jam-packed few months of phone launches from Apple’s newest iPhone 16, to Samsung Z Flip6 and ZFold6, and Google’s Pixel 9 range launch. What if you needed an affordable SIM plan to go with it?

If you’re one of thousands of mobile shoppers that opt for a swanky new phone out of contract then you’ll likely be on the hunt for an affordable SIM-only deal to pair with your new mobile. A pay-as-you-go provider the Mirror Tech team has rated and used before is offering an October deal too good to ignore.

SMARTY mobile, the provider I used to ditch roaming costs in Barcelona this summer has launched a 180GB data deal that beats Sky Mobile, O2, with a cheap £15 per month offer. And you don’t have to fix into a lengthy year-long plan.

For £15 per month, customers can bag 180GB of data, including unlimited calls and texts, and 5G. A price that works out a lot cheaper than big-name rivals.

For reference, Sky Mobile charges a hefty £30 per month for a smaller 100GB of monthly data while O2 charges £20 per month for 100GB. If you picked SMARTY Mobile’s deal for a year you’d pay £180 overall, hundreds cheaper than Sky’s £360 one-year cost for the smaller 100GB data.

And that’s not all. As we’ve reviewed for ourselves before, 12GB of the monthly allowance can be used in the EU for free – yes, users won’t face any pesky roaming costs as long as they stick to the fair-use limit.

Pros:

  • 12GB of data in EU without being charged
  • Flexible plan, can leave when you like after each 30-days
  • competitive prices – offers data amounts cheaper than rival networks

Cons:

  • Be cautious free 12GB EU Roaming can be used up quite quickly

There’s nothing worse than the thought of landing on holiday and ending up with a hefty fee you didn’t expect, but for thousands of mobile phone users, this can be the case. SMARTY offers all of its users a chunk of free roaming data to use in the EU (up to 12GB) as part of their plans.

It falls under its ‘fair use limit’ and as long as you don’t go over this amount in a month you won’t have to pay a penny for it. This is how I managed to spend a full two days in Barcelona, posting Instagram stories, using Google Maps, book restaurants and taxis without paying extra. You can read the full review here.

Everything I did in Barcelona using my SMARTY SIM

  • Booked a Bolt from the airport to our hotel

  • Download travel apps and Disney+ series for travel

  • Used Google Maps every day to walk from A to B

  • Made dinner reservations online

  • Kept friends and family updated without being charged

  • Uploaded to Instagram and TikTok

SMARTY Mobile is also re-introducing its mega value 5GB for £5 deal, or you could pick its unlimited data plan for £20. Vodafone charges their contract customers £2.42 a day or £12 for 8 days or £17 for 15 days to roam in the EU, with a data limit of 25GB. Three Mobile pay monthly customers are also charged a daily roaming fee of £2 per day, with a limit of 12GB of your plan, a price which is matched by Sky and its Roaming Passport Plus fee.
