Wolves are sat bottom of the Premier League, winless from their seven games, and they are considering Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin as a replacement for Gary O’Neil

Wolves are keeping tabs on Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin, who has been cited as a ‘modern day Sir Alex Ferguson’.

Gary O’Neil’s future at Molineux remains unclear following a poor start to the season, which has seen the Midlands outfit fail to win any of their eight games, leaving them bottom of the table. The latest loss at Brentford has sounded further alarm bells with Wolves bosses considering who they may pursue.

Thelin has made an instant impact in Scottish football with the Swede winning all 13 of his matches in charge of Aberdeen. It means the men from Pittodrie have won all seven of their games this term, and they’ve kept pace with champions Celtic.

Ferguson first made his name with Aberdeen before Manchester United came calling in 1986. The Scot had upset the natural order by winning with The Dons and now, nearly forty years on, the current manager is gathering admirers.

O’Neil has confessed he isn’t sure what would happen to his job following his latest reverse. He said: “The club or the fans will decide it’s time for me to go at some point. It’s the way the game works. I will give everything until whenever that is. No concerns about myself at all, only the team and the club. Trying to help steer the team through a difficult situation.”

The Sun reports that those at Wolves are ready to give their manager time to see how he performs during a more favourable run of fixtures having previously impressed in his debut year.

If they do opt for a change then David Moyes is also likely to be considered. He’s been out of a job since leaving West Ham in the summer and his Premier League experience could work in his favour, but if not Wolves may consider pursing Thelin.

O’Neil led them to a 14th finish last term despite only arriving on the eve of the season following Julen Lopetegui’s surprise departure. Wolves had been in the top half of table until the final weeks of the season, when their results fell away.

The 41-year-old’s only other previous job had been at Bournemouth, whom he kept in the top flight despite several doubters. When the Premier League returns following the international break Wolves will take on champions Manchester City. After that they have games to come against Brighton, Crystal Palace and Southampton.
