Prince Louis is a royal fan favourite thanks to his cheeky personality – and he had onlookers laughing with his hilarious reaction during the 2023 Trooping the Colour

No one steals the show quite like Prince Louis! The cheeky royal has become a sensation thanks to his funny antics and hilarious facial expressions. And eagle-eyed fans were left in hysterics thanks to one of his funny reactions at the 2023 Trooping the Colour.

Royal watchers were delighted to see the Wales family out in force for the King’s official birthday celebrations. Once again, William and Kate’s youngest son couldn’t help but capture all the attention with his cheeky behaviour, including making faces, saluting, and playfully sticking his tongue out during the formal event. There was another standout moment – while riding in the back of a horse-drawn carriage with his siblings on the procession from Buckingham Palace, Louis reacted dramatically to the smell of manure, comically holding his nose to emphasise the point.

Later on the balcony of the Palace, the young prince continued to entertain as aircraft zoomed overhead for the spectacular flypast. He was seen covering his ears from the noise before pretending to be one of the daring pilots in the sky above him. It’s becoming clear that whenever the royals make an appearance on the balcony, all eyes are on Louis.

Back in 2022, he put a big smile on his great-grandmother the Queen’s face, when he turned to chat to her on the balcony. Expert lip-reader, Jeremy Freeman, told the Mirror that Louis asked the Queen: “Are the Red Arrows coming?”, to which she replied: “I hope so!” When the planes eventually flew over Buckingham Palace, Louis shouted: “Yes, yes yes!”, to which the Queen replied: “There it is!” Finally, Prince Louis said: “Oh, Red Arrows… Woah!”

It’s no secret that Louis is a big fan of the RAF display team – so much so, he wants to be just like them when he grows up. The Wales family took part in a day of volunteering for The Big Help Out during the coronation weekend in 2023, and when a volunteer asked if he might want to be a painter when he grows up, Prince Louis replied, ” No, a fighter pilot!

His answer might not come as a huge surprise given how many qualified pilots there are in his family. Prince William famously worked as an search and rescue pilot after completing training with the RAF, whilst King Charles served in the RAF as well as the Royal Navy. Like many fellow royals Prince Louis, who is fourth in the royal line of succession, could indeed end up pursuing some kind of military career in the future, possibly with the RAF .

The BBC ‘s former royal correspondent Jennie Bond certainly believes it’s likely that William and Kate will encourage their youngest child to “explore life” outside the Royal Family. “I imagine they will encourage Louis to explore life outside the royal fold… it could be the military, but it could also be working in the charity world or whatever he finds appealing after his education is finished,” she suggested to OK! magazine. “I’m sure they will encourage him to go to University, which they both enjoyed and where, of course, they found love . And from there they will want him to find a life that is meaningful to him as well as appropriate for the son of a future King.”
