Singer turned Strictly star JB Gill has revealed some of the must lucrative jobs he landed during his time in JLS, where a 20 minute performance would land the group ‘six figures’

JB Gill’s Strictly stint isn’t the star’s only lucrative side-hustle.

Despite receiving a commendable score of 30 from the judges in last week’s episode for his Jive to Hey Ya! by Outkast, the JLS star was forced to battle things out in a nail-biting dance off. Along with pro partner Amy Dowden, the pair managed to avoid elimination with their moves, meaning football ace Paul Merson and Karen Hauer became the latest duo to leave the competition.

Describing his dance-off dilemma as ‘disheartening’, the 37-year-old singer says he’s still ‘over the moon’ to be on the show. “Last week is done!” he added. “It is what is it and we live to fight again.” For Halloween Week, JB and Amy will try to climb back up the scoreboard with a Foxtrot to Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader.

As reported by the Mirror, JB’s net worth is estimated to be around £3 million – even though he his pop band split up in 2013. “When I was with JLS, we were paid five-figure and six-figure sums for private gigs where we would typically do sets lasting no more than 20 minutes,” he said.

“Obviously we’d split these fees four ways… Once, we were paid a huge amount to have dinner with a wealthy gentleman and his daughters. We didn’t sing at all – we just ate with the family. That was pretty cool.”

JB will also be raking it in from his Strictly stint. According to reports, all contestants receive a flat fee of £25,000 for taking part in the competition, with a paycheque bump for the longer they stay in the running for the Glitterball Trophy. In fact, those that make it to the quarter finals will be in for a whopping £60,000 payment, while the semi-finals offer an even sweeter £75,000. The lucky stars who make it to the final will be compensated with £100,000.

JB has also found a new form of income after ditching the entertainment industry for farming. He lives with his wife Chloe Tangney on a £1.5 million home in Kent, which has a vast 19 acres. “There’s always that affinity in island nations of self-sufficiency and growing your own, understanding and knowledge of knowing where your food comes from,” he said, explaining how the move was inspired by his dad’s upbringing in Antigua.

Strictly Come Dancing airs every Saturday on BBC One.
