The late Sven-Göran Eriksson – who managed England during his career in football – spoke about his life in a self-titled Prime Video documentary that was released last year

The debts of Sven-Goran Eriksson threatened to “destroy” his family and he admitted he was “stupid” with money just months before his death.

The children of Sven spoke of their concerns over his handling of his finances last year saying they wished he had “been more careful”. In 2011 Sven went to court, after one of his financial advisors Samir Khan allegedly accepted ‘unlimited access’ to Sven’s wealth and proceeded to use his money in dubious investments, including property schemes. Sven ended up £10 million in debt.

In the Prime documentary ‘Sven’ made shortly before his death, Sven looked back and said: “One day, I phoned the bank and asked them to do a transfer, and they said, you don’t have any cash. I said ‘what’s that?’.” He added: “Stupid, not as stupid as him, but still stupid. My family, they were destroyed. And I said, Well, come on, I’ll earn more money then.”

His son and daughter were also seen speaking about what happened. Sven’s daughter Lina said: “Dad is really good in a lot of areas in life, but a lot of the times I wish that he had had a really good mentor.” His son Johan added: “Definitely worried sometimes that he could be a bit more careful.”

The financial issues meant that when he split from Nancy Dell’Olio she did not get much in the way of money or possessions. She told the documentary of their relationship: “It didn’t end the way that I wanted of course. This financial matter was much worse than his infidelity. The house, the money I got nothing.”
