Taylor ended her caption by expressing her excitement for her upcoming Europe tour dates. “I was already so fired up to get back to the tour but you doing THIS?? May 9th can’t come soon enough,” she wrote.
The post included pictures of Taylor seemingly recording the album. She also included photos of her and Post Malone, who was featured on her song Fortnight; and photos of her with Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine who was featured on her song Florida.
Though the album is her eleventh studio album, it’s her 14th to hit number one on the Billboard Top 200 chart with her re-recorded albums included. She got her first number-one album in 2008 with Fearless.
Every album since has debuted at number one – Speak Now (2010); Red (2012); 1989 (2014); Reputation (2017); Lover (2019); Folklore (2020); Evermore (2020); Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in 2021; Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021; Midnights (2022); Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) in 2023; 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in 2023; and of course, The Tortured Poets Department.
Taylor holds the record for most debut number-one albums by a female solo artist. She’s tied with Jay-Z at 14, and both trail The Beatles who had 19.
The Tortured Poets Department also broke the record for the most streams in its debut week with 891.37 million streams. It beat out the previous record holder, Drake’s 2018 album Scorpion which had 745.92 million in its debut week.
