Keen-eyed fans of Swiss chocolate Toblerone have picked up on a hidden feature of the logo that pays tribute to the city the confectionary was first created in

Toblerone fans are only just noticing the hidden detail in the chocolate’s logo, which pays tribute to a historic city.

The Swiss brand chocolate has been around for over a century. And in that time, it has provided plenty of packaging nods to its home country.

Some are more obvious than others and are all part of the branding – including the mountain visible on the chocolate wrappers. Many will know this represents the Matterhorn in the Alps.

But those who looked at the Alps image a little closer could spot another reference to where the chocolate was founded, which many customers may have missed out on.

A viral TikTok from user @howiedrawsthings has revealed what people may be missing, and it’s an image which pays tribute to the Swiss capital.

As the chocolate was created in the city of Bern back in 1908, Toblerone appeared keen to express their love for the city. So they found a way to hide a tribute in the chocolate packaging.

The naming of the chocolate even holds a secret message, with some of its letters spelling out the capital city. @howiedrawsthings circled the b, er, and n of the Toblerone logo and then drew a triangle around the mountain to reveal its homegrown tributes.

But what many may not know is a bear can be seen in the middle of the mountain. Colouring in the mountain and revealing the bear inside, the TikTok illustrator showed where the animal was hiding.

There is reason behind its appearance too – as the bear is the animal on Bern’s coat of arms. The illustrator revealed: “A hidden bear is from the Bern coat of arms.”

Members of the public had picked up on the hidden bear too, and took to Reddit to reveal why the bear was there. One user wrote: “Bears are everywhere in Bern. It’s the symbol of the city. They are in fountains, statues, flags, monuments and most importantly, there’s a f**king bear park in the city where you can see bears as if the city centre is a zoo. There’s even a place called bear pit, which is very weird to be near.”

Another confirmed the reason behind the bear’s appearance, writing: “The bear is on the flag of the city of Bern where Toblerone was founded.” Some have taken to making up a new, bear-pun featuring name for the popular chocolate and have since dubbed it “Tobearlone”.
