Love Island star Tommy Fury was tipped to become a 2024 contestant on I’m A Celeb before dropping out of negotiations. While one reason was given at the time, the truth has now finally emerged.
The real reason Tommy Fury dropped out of starring on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has been revealed.
Reality show fans were in a frenzy of excitement earlier this year when it was rumoured the 25-year-old Love Island contestant would be heading into the jungle after his explosive split from fiancé Molly-Mae Hague – with whom he shares a one-year-old daughter named Bambi. But excitement turned to disappointment when it was revealed that Tommy had rejected the offer to go into the jungle on the long-running ITV series.
At the time, it was suggested that Tommy would not take part in I’m A Celeb in order to prepare to fight a YouTube personality. But now it has been revealed that he has actually landed a gig in the ring against a verified fighter.
On Sunday, the official Misfits Boxing Instagram account revealed that Tommy had been booked to go up against professional mixed martial artist Darren Till, 31. They shared details of the fight, uploading a promotional poster revealing the fight will take place on 18 January at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester.
An accompanying caption revealed: “ALL ON THE LINE.Tommy Fury and Darren Till lock horns in a HUGE start to 2025 in Manchester. Who you backing? Watch live and exclusive worldwide on DAZN PPV.” This means that the boxer who has always praised Love Island for giving him a platform, will be in training from the start of December, while I’m A Celebrity is still airing.
The announcement received a mixed response from fight fans – with one ridiculing Tommy to write: “He left I’m a celeb get me out of here for this … fair he got out light as he prob be a poom poom with the challenges and that but on a real I don’t think anyone cares about this fight am I right lol.” Fans speculated that his opponent will come out on top, with one writing: “Darren till easily beats Tommy fury im afraid.” Another typed: “Oooooof actually great fight.” And a further fan wrote: “I’m backing the scouser Darren till for this fight.”
Another fight fan wrote: “Decent fight. Darren Till is no slouch. He is a striker, younger and has been solely focused on boxing. Great matchup.” Tommy did have some support in the comments too – with one writing: “Tommy wins easily ngl”. But others despaired at the match details, with one writing: “Real boxing is in the bin.” And further fans were disappointed that Tommy was not matched to fight YouTube star KSI as this had been proposed previously.
A source told The Sun last month that the reason Tommy rejected an offer to be on I’m A Celeb was due to fight plans. They claimed: “Bosses are surprised Tommy has pulled out of I’m A Celebrity at this late stage as it would have been a great opportunity for him… Thankfully, execs already had some great names waiting in the wings so they’ll be looking at which ones fit best into the line-up already booked so they can deliver a truly great series.”
