A British grandma who fell in love with a 19-year-old waiter in Turkey says age ‘doesn’t matter’ as her toyboy, who is the same age as her daughter, says he sees a ‘long future’ with her

A couple who have had to fiercely defend their age-gap relationship has one message for those questioning their love.

Kurdish teenager Sefkan Güzel, 19, is dating Scottish grandmother Rachel McIntrye, 35, and says “age doesn’t matter” as he sees a “long future” with the Brit. Despite being 16-years her junior, the waiter is madly in love with Rachel, who was on a two-month holiday in Turkey when they initially met.

He had noticed her at the hotel he worked at, but now says their connection goes deeper than just a ‘holiday romance’ – even though he is the same age as Rachel’s daughter.

Rachel said she noticed Sefkan straight away due to his good looks, but ‘backed off’ when she found out his age after she previously dating a Turkish waiter, with a relationship that turned sour. However, she defended her new beau and described him as “gentle”, “kind”, and a “wonderful lover”. She also said he has never asked her for money, and usually pays when they go out.

The grandmother said she’d never been with someone as young as Sefkan as her previous partners have either been the same age or a little older, but said age is “just a number” and it doesn’t bother her. Sefkan added: “It doesn’t matter to me about age, I love her so much and she is so beautiful, and that is all I care about. I didn’t know she was older until she told me her age. I was shocked. We love each other very much and I see a future together,” as reported by Mail Online.

The mother-of-one said it was her toyboy’s persistent flirting that won her over in the end and now they are in love. While everyone is happy for Sefkan, it wasn’t the same for Rachel, whose daughter Bethany was initially concerned.

Rachel explained: “Bethany was a little bit freaked out by the whole situation at first and said it couldn’t happen. But after a very short period of time she came round and just wants me to be happy – and plus she gets on with Sefkan.”

Bethany, who has a daughter of her own, has come round to accept the relationship, and Sefkan is now her baby step-grandfather. However, Sefkan said his new role is going to take some “getting used to”.

“It is very funny that I am a stepdad and step-grandad at my age, I didn’t think that would happened, but it is good and I love Bethany too and the baby. We are all very good and happy,” he added. Following her return to the UK in August, Stefkan and Rachel’s relationship has gone from strength to strength and they regularly keep in touch by video call. She’s planning to go over to see Sefkan in November, and their dream is to move abroad together.

The couple spent their time together going on long bike rides and hikes, which helped to strengthen their relationship – however, Rachel has already made it clear to him she doesn’t want any more kids.
