Arne Slot was sent off by Michael Oliver in the aftermath of Liverpool’s dramatic draw with Everton on Wednesday night with the Reds boss fuming over James Tarkowski’s late equaliser

Premier League rules BANNED Arne Slot from conducting a post-match interview following his sending off in the chaotic draw with Everton.

Despite Beto opening the scoring for the Toffees, Slot’s Liverpool side appeared to be heading for a win thanks to an equaliser from Alexis Mac Allister and a strike from Mo Salah. But eight minutes into stoppage time James Tarkowski lashed home a dramatic leveller.

The goal was only awarded after video assistant referee (VAR) checks for offside and a foul. Slot was left furious it was allowed to stand and angrily remonstrated with referee Michael Oliver.

The Dutchman exchanged words with Oliver before he gave the referee an angry handshake, leading Oliver to brandish the red card. Slot was miffed by the decision, but he was unable to explain his anger after the game.

Premier League rules dictate that any player, coach or manager who is shown a red card cannot conduct post-match interviews with the media. Slot’s assistant Spike Hulshoff could not even step in as he was also shown a red card.

Hulshoff was also red-carded for furiously arguing with Oliver over the awarding of Tarkowski’s goal. As a result, Liverpool’s coaching press conference was cancelled, with captain Virgil van Dijk sent to speak with the broadcast media.

Slot and Hulshoff will now both be handed touchline bans for this weekend’s visit from struggling Wolves. First-team coach John Heitinga will instead lead the team, with Slot and his No.2 banished to the stands.

The Reds boss can give a pre-match team talk, be in the dressing room at half-time, and they can pass on information for their assistants to relay during the game. He may also complete pre and post-match media duties.

Slot and Hulshoff’s reds were two of four shown on a crazy night at Goodison Park. After the final whistle, Everton star Abdoulaye Doucoure taunted the Liverpool fans and was confronted by Liverpool substitute Curtis Jones, with players from both sides squaring up.

The the pair were then sent off by Oliver, but only after police and stewards intervened to separate the rowing players. Reds skipper Van Dijk delivered an angry interview in which he made a clear dig at Everton for their response to the draw.

“This is their cup final. We saw it last year, and this year it’s a big blow. Doucoure wanted to provoke our fans. Curtis didn’t think that was the right thing to do. I think the referee didn’t have the game in control; I said that to him,” he fumed.

“It was a very big provocation from one certain player. We all saw it and reacted as a team as we were able to do. You know what happens nowadays, it becomes one big tussle. Then it is not me who has to deal with it, it is the referee and today I am not sure he had it fully under control.”
