Love Island’s Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville appeared to have the perfect relationship after meeting on the ITV programme back in 2017 after entering as a bombshell
Love Island All Stars’ Gabby Allen and Marcel Somerville face an awkward reunion.
The couple met back in 2017 on the dating programme, when Gabby entered the Majorcan villa on Day 7 as a bombshell, alongside Tyne-Lexy Clarkson. The Knowsley-born star instantly took a liking to Marcel, of Blazin’ Squad fame and coupled up with him before reaching the final.
Despite finishing in fourth place, they went on to form a relationship outside of the villa and appeared to be loves young dream. But just one year later, their world came crashing down when it emerged that their relationship was at a crossroads and Marcel had cheated on Gabby, which he later admitted was a “big mistake.”
Upon their first meeting, Gabby chose to go on a date with Marcel and Chris Hughes but she only had eyes for the musician. They kissed for the first time on the tenth day, while Marcel was coupled up with Montana Brown and officially became a couple on day 14. But things hit a rough patch when the boys moved over to Casa Amor and Marcel kissed Shannen, a new girl.
However, Gabby was also criticised after she said that she was in love with Marcel – but a lie detector test accused her of lying. The pair went on to share a string of loved-up snaps after leaving the villa and even jetted to Cancun, Mexico together in February 2018 – the same month they revealed on This Morning that they’d spoken about marriage.
Speaking on the show, Gabby said: “We’ve discussed whether we’d get married abroad. We’ve only been together for eight months, so you’d think it would be quick. But it’s so magnified that it’s already spoken about.” Their trip to Mexico, however, is where it all went wrong for them.
It was during this trip that Marcel slept with another woman. At the time, a source told The Sun: “They had a row one night so Gabby went back to their hotel room to sleep. Marcel started chatting to another woman at the bar where they kissed in full view of other guests.
“He insisted that he was staying there for promotional purposes and that it was over between him and Gabby. He claimed his relationship with Gabby was over and he just needed to make it through the week. Marcel and the girl slept together in her room and he left and went back to Gabby’s room, but promised to see her the following day when Gabby was at the gym.”
The woman in question later contacted Gabby on social media, and sent her screenshots of messages from Marcel. One message from Marcel read: “Tomorrow I’ll be available. We can have some day sex.” Another saw Marcel type: “I’m going to the gym but I’ll try and catch you on the way. Actually the plan has been ruined. She’s back.” Gabby was said to be “mortified” that Marcel cheated on her with another guest at the hotel and was “terrified” to think about his actions when she wasn’t around.
Two months after their split, Gabby jetted abroad for a health retreat alongside the likes of Dan Osbourne and Calum Best. She told fans on X, now known as Twitter: “Thank you to everyone for your kind messages, love and support. It’s been a tough couple of days, I think I might still be in a bit of shock! But I’m sure in time I will be OK. I have the best family and friends around me. I’m a lucky girl.” Just one day later, Marcel’s management issued a statement confirming he had cheated on his behalf.
They said: “Marcel can’t really defend his actions as he knows what he did wrong and will regret it forever. Marcel is upset that he broke the heart of someone he loves and someone that he shared so many special moments with, but with all the good times there are difficult times, and sadly Marcel and Gabby had been in a bad place at this stage.
“Gabby was a special part of my Marcel’s life, and he hopes one day she can find it in herself to forgive him He knows what he did was wrong and is extremely sad about how he has hurt Gabby.” Speaking to new! magazine, he went on to say: “I’m upset, I’m sad, like I made a mistake and there’s nothing I can do.
“I do love her and I do miss her but there’s nothing you can do about it.” But now that they’re on All Stars together, is there a chance of them reigniting their former romance? Speaking to the Mirror, Marcel said: “It’d be pretty nice coming face to face with Gabby again because obviously a lot happened after we came out of the villa. Obviously, I made my mistake, put my hands up, but after that situation we did actually bump into each other and have a conversation and talk about everything, hugged it out and it was a very amicable ending to our life.
“But I haven’t seen her since that point, so it’d probably be nice to catch up and see how she’s been getting on. I’ve seen that she’s had romances since, so we both moved on and we both grew, so it’d probably be nice to just like have a catch up and just just be friends.”
