Anyone who’s been on the hunt for a new laptop recently might find it disheartening to discover that many of them carry hefty price tags of £1000 or more. However, if you’re looking for the perfect piece of tech to see you through school, work or simply leisure, it doesn’t mean you can’t snag a bargain if you search diligently.
In fact, if you head over to Wowcher, you can pick from an HP, Acer or Dell 2-in-1 Chromebook starting from a jaw-dropping £49 for the HP Chromebook 11A G6 option, £59 for an Acer Chromebook 11 Spin or £79 for a Dell Chromebook 11. All three are excellent choices, although it’s worth noting that these are refurbished laptops, not brand-new ones.
Regardless of your choice, you’ll receive a sleek 11.6-inch design that pairs well with travel, work or study. As they’re Chromebooks, they run on ChromeOS and might feel a bit different to use compared to Windows or a Mac. You essentially work entirely in the cloud, on Google Docs and other services. A 4GB RAM is sufficient to keep web browsing smooth, while a 32GB SSD provides quick storage, albeit not a vast amount of space for files.
Since Wowcher doesn’t feature user reviews, you won’t get a sense of how people have found their laptops post-purchase, although doing some research into the used Chromebook market could shed some light on this aspect. However, you can also gain plenty of insights by shopping for alternative low-cost options, reports the Manchester Evening News.

At Currys, you could bag a newer Chromebook if you’re willing to splash out a bit more. The Samsung Galaxy GO with LTE is priced at £179 and boasts up-to-date components. Its 12-hour battery life and 64GB of onboard storage easily surpass the Wowcher options.
Just a tad pricier is the much bulkier HP 15a-na0503sa 15.6″ Chromebook, which is priced at £199, down £80 from its usual price of £279 – a decent saving indeed. It offers 128GB of storage, doubling the capacity once again, along with 11.5 hours of battery life and a generously large screen perfect for binge-watching.
However, it’s undeniable that either of these would set you back at least twice as much as the Wowcher deal – so if budget is your top concern, this offer is worth considering. After all, snagging a laptop for under £50 is quite a steal, and stocks might not last forever.
