A popular streaming that’s available on Fire TV Sticks is being shut down for good.

Fire TV Stick owners will soon have one less free app to watch. It’s been confirmed that the popular Freevee service is being closed down for good which means it will no longer be available to use. For those not aware, Freevee is an advert support platform that offers a vast array of films and box sets to watch without having to sign up for expensive subscriptions.

Shows and movies currently available on the platform include Madmen, Hells Kitchen, Nice Guys, Scream 2 and Jack Ryan. Amazon has also put several Prime Video originals on Freevee including Jeremy Clarkson ’s The Grand Tour and the action series Reacher.

Sadly, those who currently enjoy tuning into Freevee may not have long left before it disappears from screens. Amazon has just confirmed plans to phase out this free streaming service in a bid to push more people to its Prime Video service.

“To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding,” an Amazon spokesperson told Variety.

“There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including select originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST channels — all available on Prime Video.”

Variety said Freevee “will be phased out over the course of the next several weeks”.

It’s unclear how the change will affect Freevee users but it appears there will still be plenty of content to view without needing to sign up for Prime access.

Prime Video costs £5.99 per month whilst full Prime access is priced at £8.99 but some things will be available without paying those fees.

As well as shutting Freevee there’s more big news for Amazon’s Fire platform.

The online retailer has just announced the launch of new Micro LED TVs which offer a more premium experience than the firm’s other screens.

These top-end goggleboxes not only offer simple access to all the most popular streaming services such as Disney+, Prime Video and Netflix but also feature more pixel-packed displays.

In fact, Amazon is boasting that its new Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series “optimises picture quality, audio, and performance to deliver its best and most innovative TV yet”
