The Traitors presenter Claudia Winkleman previously urged bosses not to bring the popular show back for a second series, despite it’s success

Claudia Winkleman has revealed that she constantly fears her presenting career could come to an end, despite her ongoing success.

In a surprising admission, the 52-year-old host said she would understand if producers decided they were “done with her” as she declared: “I cannot believe my luck.”

“I always panic because [I’m] freelance,” Claudia shared. “I read out loud on tele and somebody suddenly might turn around and go, ‘We are done with her’.

“And, that’s OK, they can, and I give them full permission and I get it, I’d be like, ‘byesy bye, night night, thank you, I’ve had a lovely run’.”

Claudia said as a back-up plan over the years, she has turned to writing and has also considered doing a Masters degree or embarking on an embroidery course.

For now, the presenter needn’t to worry as she currently still has a packed schedule presenting the likes of; Strictly Come Dancing, The Traitors and The Piano.

Ahead of the third series of The Traitors returning to screens, Claudia recalled a conversation she had with her husband Kris Thykier during filming for season one.

She shared: “[I said] I’m obsessed by it, but I am wearing red fingerless gloves, a cape and I’m talking about people being murdered.

“And, I think it might be over. I imagine it’s over, like I’ve had a good run and then people started liking it.”

Claudia was particularly amazed by the reaction the show received from some of her “heroes” including Kathy Burke and Russell T Davies.

Despite this, Claudia admitted she urged bosses not to bring it back for a second series.

She added on Gabby Logan’s The Mid.Point podcast: “I said to Kate, I said to our bosses, I was like, ‘we’ve done it once and it did well, but I don’t think we should do it again’, to which they just leaned over and took my temperature [and said] ‘we’re doing it again’.”

The show has gone on to win a series of gongs, including two National Television Awards for Most Popular Reality Competition.

Adding her thoughts about the new series, she continued: “I don’t know if this one will do well, series three, I don’t know,” adding of its success: “We don’t want to take it for granted.”

The Traitors airs tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
