Manchester United signed Patrick Dorgu on Sunday but their work is not yet complete in the transfer window as they bid to tempt Mathys Tel to Old Trafford rather than Arsenal

Mathys Tel is at the centre of a battle with Arsenal and Manchester United before the end of the transfer window.

Mirror Sport revealed Arsenal’s interest in the Bayern Munich starlet last Wednesday and their hopes appeared to have faded after Tottenham had a £50m bid accepted. But Tel has turned down Spurs and United are also in the hunt and are open to a loan move to bolster their squad.

France starlet Tel, 19, favours a loan as he just wants more game time while Arsenal would prefer a deal with some sort of obligation. Bayern may still not sanction a loan as he is still a major prospect. But Arsenal are keen to do a deal before the deadline closes on Monday and that may tempt them to think again.

United have held extensive talks with Bayern and the player’s representatives to try and get a deal done before Monday’s deadline. There is a feeling that Tel is Premier League bound in this window – and now it is a case of where.

The German giants have suggested that Tel could remain in Munich after the transfer window shuts however, and claimed the player remains undecided over his future with little over a day remaining in the transfer window.

Sporting director Christoph Freund claimed that Bayern were not even in negotiations over his exit on Saturday. Though, Tel was left out of the club’s squad for their win over Holstein Kiel.

“It’s quite possible that he will still be a Bayern player by Tuesday,” he said. “He is undecided. There has been a lot going on around him in the last few days and he should now think about it in calm.”

“The current tendency is for him to stay,” he added. “We are not in concrete negotiations with any club. If anything else happens, we will speak to him,” said Freund.

Speaking on Saturday, Bayern forward Harry Kane encouraged his team-mate to go and find more playing time. The former Premier League striker believes that should be Tel’s priority.

“Mathys is a great young player,” he said. “I’ve worked with him for 18 months. He has a lot of potential, works and trains hard.

“He can still improve, but he has the right mindset. My advice is wherever he goes, he should make sure he gets game time and experience.”
