New England boss Thomas Tuchel has opened up on his decision to snub Manchester United, while Brazil flop Antony is nearing the exit at Old Trafford

While Erik ten Hag faces a potentially decisive fixture against Brentford on Saturday, one of the men linked with replacing him as Manchester United boss has broken his silence on replacing the Dutchman

Thomas Tuchel was yesterday unveiled as England’s new manager, signing an 18-month contract, and he was asked about United during his press conference at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Brazilian flop Antony will be allowed to leave United if a club is willing to stump up £40m and Sir Alex Ferguson has been pictured for the first time since news broke that his £2.1m ambassador role is being cut at the end of the season.

Here are the big stories from in and around Manchester United over the past 24 hours.

Tuchel talks

Thomas Tuchel has explained why he chose to become the new manager of England over Manchester United, having been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United boss Erik ten Hag has come under huge pressure after his side made their worst ever start to a Premier League season and Tuchel had emerged as a potential replacement for the Dutchman, having previously held talks with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe about the job over the summer.

However, Tuchel has now been announced as England’s new manager, becoming just the third non-Englishman to take charge of the Three Lions. And when asked why he took the role instead of holding out for the United job, Tuchel explained his decision.

Antony fee

Manchester United are ready to offload Antony and are hopeful of securing £40million for the Brazilian flop.

The winger, signed from Ajax in Erik ten Hag ‘s first summer, has been one of the most underwhelming signings in top flight history. His astronomical £86m fee, coupled with his lack of return on the pitch, makes him one of the worst buys in Premier League history.

Antony has slipped down the pecking order as patience wears thin and the club are already prepared to get him off their books despite their huge investment.

However United would prefer to sanction a loan move for the 24-year-old in January.

Ferguson pictured

Sir Alex Ferguson has been pictured for the first time since his Manchester United contract was ended by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The iconic figure, now 82, retired from management back in 2013 but has remained a regular at Old Trafford. He took on an ambassador role which saw him earn in excess of £2million-a-year. But at the end of the current season, INEOS will end that agreement.

Ferguson was told in a face-to-face meeting with Ratcliffe, who has made it known that the club are trying to reduce costs and were no longer in a position to continue paying him beyond this season. Sources have since indicated that the meeting was amicable.

Ferguson, who remains a non-executive director, was seen out late on Tuesday evening as he posed for a picture with a fan after leaving Cibo Restaurant in Hale Village, Cheshire.
