Ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Chelsea, Gary Neville paid Cole Palmer the ultimate compliment by comparing the England star to Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s defence have a job on their hands against Chelsea if Gary Neville’s comparison of Cole Palmer to Mohamed Salah is anything to go by.

The two Premier League giants come to blows on Sunday (October 20) at Anfield with Arne Slot’s side topping the table while the Blues, led by Enzo Maresca, sit fourth after seven games.

Both teams will field tons of talent on the pitch but it’s Mo Salah and Cole Palmer who are the undisputed talismen for their respective clubs.

With the Egyptian superstar seemingly nearing the end of his stellar career in England with his contract expiring next summer and ex-Man City star establishing himself as one of the league’s best, Neville’s thoughts on Palmer mirrored comments he made about Salah at the beginning of his Liverpool tenure.

Following Palmer’s impressive four-goal haul against Brighton earlier this month, the Manchester United legend claimed the Chelsea star is closing on Salah’s level.

“He’s not far off,” he said to NBC Sports. “I have to say that I was surprised last season. I remember when Mohamed Salah scored those goals all those years ago and I thought, ‘He won’t repeat that in the second season, he won’t repeat that in the third season’, and Cole Palmer is doing and just completely shocked me in terms of what he’s delivering,” Neville said.

Despite his subpar performance in England’s surprising 2-1 defeat to Greece last week, Neville remains convinced of Palmer’s potential and even branded Manchester City “ridiculous” for letting him leave.

“I can’t believe the level that he’s getting to and to think that he wasn’t playing for England in the European Championship in the summer now just seems absolutely ridiculous,” he added.

“And it seems even more ridiculous that Manch ester City, who have been unbelievable in the transfer market, have let one of their own go.”

Salah has racked up four goals and four assists in seven league games this season with Palmer eclipsing the Liverpool winger with six goals and five assists.
